Who We Are

Laura Baker Services Association (LBSA) is a disability services provider for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). Our mission is to respect the life choices, dreams, and goals of people with developmental disabilities. 

What We Do

About the Program LBSA’s Respite Program is a monthly opportunity for families caring for children and adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD). Participants who live at home with their families can join us for an afternoon of socialization, recreation, and fun. Our goal is to provide caregivers with a few hours of respite while offering participants meaningful social interaction, opportunities to build friendships, and chances to explore new activities. Volunteers play an important role by providing support, encouragement, and companionship throughout the day. What Volunteers Can Expect -Support from two trained LBSA staff members -A briefing on need-to-know information to help you best support participants -Opportunities to work one-on-one or in small groups with participants -Participation in a variety of activities adapted to different needs, interests, and abilities -An end-of-day form to complete about your experience with your participant Participants May Enjoy -Arts and crafts -Games and recreational activities -Group walks and outdoor activities (weather permitting) -Social opportunities with peers and volunteers -Music -Snacks and refreshments -Choosing activities that match their interests and comfort level What Should Volunteers Prioritize? -Companionship and connection -Flexibility and adaptability -Fun!
